The morning is a great opportunity ease into the new day and plan the rest of the things you have to get done.
A few days a week I wake up at 6am and have seen changes in my every day routine. Mainly in my organization and attitude – it’s not much, but I’ll take it!
Even if you absolutely cannot allow yourself to wake up *too* early, setting your alarm clock at least 10 minutes earlier can help get some extra things done in the mornings. Getting some extra chores in before bed is also extremely beneficial.
Here are some things you should be doing in the morning
“Morning is an important time of day, because how you spend your morning can often tell you what kind of day you are going to have.”
~ Lemony Snicket
1 – Namaste
Since you’ve woken up a little early this morning, you have enough time to be productive. Having a morning workout routine will get your heart rate pumpin’ and wake your mind so you’re already on the right track. There are many options such as early bird yoga and cycling classes; but for those of you who don’t have a membership to the local gym Pinterest has great workouts already made up for your convenience. Knock out the workout in the morning so it’s less you have to schedule at the end of your day.
2 – Pancakes or Waffles?
Wouldn’t you rather make a breakfast than just grab a protein bar on your way out the door? Fresh fruit, an omelet, or any other easy breakfast will improve your health in general by jump-starting your metabolism and it gives you the energy you need to make it through the day. You’ll thank me later when you’re not starving by lunchtime. 😉
3 – #trending
One habit most of us are guilty of is scrolling through the riffraff of social media before your feet touch the floor. The outside world never went to sleep like you did, and it’s still buzzing – forever changing. Let it wait. For at least an hour just to get a clear mind for the beginning of the day.
Writing in a journal, meditation, or catching up on forgotten homework are some great things to get finished before you open up your cell phone.
4 – PSL?
How could anyone talk about the morning hours and not mention the C word? For most of us coffee is the thing that gives us life, the ability to have a civil conversation before 9am. Being able to sit and sip in the peace of your own space can dramatically affect your attitude for the day, in the best way of course.
If coffee isn’t your prerogative, try tea. It can have just as much caffeine. Make time to use your favorite mug you adore so much. Who knows, you might even have time for a second (or third) cup. 🙂
5 – Keep It Plain + Simple
We all have a lot of tasks we COULD get done in the mornings, but don’t overwhelm yourself. You may not have time to workout, study, do laundry, and make breakfast before 7am, and that’s okay. Keep your must-get-done tasks at the top of your list – fail-proof plan.
Create an early morning routine that works for you and conquer it. This is for you to thrive and have a productive day. I’m still perfecting my morning routine every day!
